A New Era of Travel Begins at Chicago O’Hare

Chicago O’Hare International Airport is undergoing the largest terminal expansion in its history. Through O’Hare 21 and its next phase, ORDNext, one of the world’s most connected airports is undergoing a bold reinvention, reinforcing its role as a global aviation hub and international gateway. The result: a future-ready gateway designed around comfort, efficiency, and a distinctly Chicago sense of place—perfectly aligned with the elevated expectations of today’s travelers.

The New Concourse D—the first new concourse at O’Hare in more than 30 years—will significantly enhance productivity for both domestic and international flights, improving the passenger experience. The concourse features soaring ceilings, skylights, and expansive interiors inspired by O’Hare’s original name, Orchard Field, while contributing to enhanced traveler experience design. Scheduled for completion in late 2028.

A second satellite concourse, Concourse E, is designed primarily for domestic flights. This multi-level, 460,000 square foot facility will deliver a thoughtfully curated environment that balances proficiency with comfort.

Below ground, the O’Hare Tunnel Project will further unify the airport experience. New passages from Concourses D and E will guide travelers via moving walkways directly to main terminals and visitor areas. In addition, the tunnel will support critical operations including baggage handling and secure staff corridors.

At the center of it all is the O’Hare Global Terminal. This new international terminal nearly doubles the size of the existing Terminal 2 and will serve both domestic and international travelers, enabling seamless connections for hub carriers American and United Airlines, along with their One World and Star Alliance partners.

While new construction captures attention, O’Hare is also investing in its existing facilities. Scheduled for completion in 2027, Terminal 3 will be improving security screening, providing a revamped baggage claim experience and approximately 10,000 square feet of new concessions and amenities. American Airlines continues to elevate the customer experience opening a new Admirals Club in the L concourse, contributing to premium passenger services.  Notably for travelers, Terminal 3 will remain fully operational throughout construction, with no planned concession closures ensuring continuity and comfort for passengers during the transition.

O’Hare’s transformation is more than infrastructure—it’s assurance. Assurance that arrival will impress. That connections will be smooth. That Chicago will continue to deliver at a world-class level as a leading global destination for meetings and incentives.
