In Palenque,a prime Mayan site, lived the greatest and most interesting of all ancient Mayans. That was a man who came to be identified as someone named Pakal or the Great Pakal or Pakal Votan. His fame rested on this fact, in 1952 an archeologist discovered a tomb, down in the bottom of one of the great pyramids of Palenque, the Pyramid of the Inscriptions. This is a replica of its famous head sculpture.
