Chicago overtakes Atlanta as USA’s busiest airport

O’Hare moved past Atlanta for having the most “flight operations” in 2018, according to the full-year figures released by the Federal Aviation Administration on Monday. It was the first time since 2014 that O’Hare beat Atlanta in the category. So, what’s the catch? Atlanta is expected to remain both the USA’s and the world’s busiest in terms of passenger count, which is generally considered the traditional barometer for determining the title of “world’s busiest.” Those numbers are expected to be released by the Airports Council International trade group this spring. For those curious, O’Hare had 903,747 flight operations in 2018, according to the FAA data. That was a year-over-year increase of about 4 percent, just enough to overtake Atlanta and its count of 895,502 total flight operations for the year. In determining the total number of flight operations, the FAA counts commercial airline flights, general aviation flights, military flights and air taxi operations. As for O’Hare, it actually drops to No. 3 in the U.S. when measured by passengers. In 2017, 79.9 million passengers flew through O’Hare, ranking it sixth in the world. Los Angeles was the USA’s No. 2 airport in 2017, when it saw a total of 84.6 million passengers. But for 2018, at least, it appears there will be a split “world’s busiest” title in the USA for the first time since 2014.

Whale watching in Los Cabos

Because of the annual migration to the Sea of Cortez, the best time for Whale Watching in Los Cabos, is from mid-December until mid-April; allowing for up to five months of whale watching splendor. During this near half year, Humpback Whales and Gray Whales tend to meander really close to the Bay of Cabo San Lucas and its southern Sea of Cortez coastline. The variety of whales that everyone visiting Cabo comes to photograph, film and see are the Humpback Whales, that are either dark gray or black in color with white patches on their stomach and have two blowholes located on the top of their heads. It is the Humpback’s that are known to be generally curious, and often approach sigh-seeing boats; coming up alongside the boat or even swimming beneath it. The rest of the popular whales that inhabit the warm Mexico waters during their visits, include the Gray Whales, which are the second most commonly encountered whale species in Cabo, and the Blue Whales, Fin Whales, Sperm Whales, and Killer Whales.
